“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning.”

{James 1:17 NKJV}

What is good? What is perfect?

Is the quality of the gift determined by the one the gift is given to…or by the one who gives the gift?

Now there’s a mind boggler!!

From a human standpoint…I think the quality is definitely determined by the receiver. We want to be happy with the gifts we receive.

From a Spiritual standpoint…the quality is determined by the Giver. What we think of the gift is not relevant. This is true, because we don’t always see what the gift is good for.

Now…some might say, “How could the death of a loved one, or the loss of a job, or the house burning down be a good gift?”

Could it be that by taking something away, HE is giving you the opportunity for something better?

Again…some might say…”GOD hasn’t given  me anything! HE’s only taken things away from me!”

Let me tell you a little story:

When my family moved from Florida to Illinois, we moved in with my Grandmother. She had ample room for us and was glad to be able to help us. We lived there for quite a while…in the secure comfort of her home. And then one day she told us we had to move out!

We had no place to go…no real money saved for the expense of getting a place of our own…

My Grandmother was not book smart, not really even worldly smart, but she was wise and her wisdom came from her constant communication with GOD. In this wisdom, she could see that our little family was never going to be what it was supposed to be, if we continued to live with her. We, on the other hand, were devastated by our sudden eviction notice! How could we make it on our own? Where would we go? But…we did go.

How does this story end?

GOD provided…first, HE provided a beautiful apartment, perfectly suited for our family’s needs. Then, HE allowed us to buy a house. All this in a very short amount of time.

Yeah…Grandma kicking us out was the best thing that ever happened to our family!

It didn’t seem like it at the time…but once we all began to be obedient to what GOD wanted us to do…HIS gift of Grandma’s wisdom gave us our blessing.

So…this gift…when it was given…didn’t seem good or perfect to us…but that didn’t matter, because GOD saw the goodness and the perfection that was to come from it.

“Oh, how great are God’s riches and wisdom and knowledge! How impossible it is for us to understand his decisions and his ways!”

{Romans 11:33 NLT}

So…about that gift you’ve been wondering about…

First: You may not always understand what GOD is doing, but you must always be looking for HIS purpose.

Second: Do a self-check…is GOD directing you to a certain path? Are you listening?

Third: Set your mind on HIS intention…and accept HIS gift with a willing heart.

Gaining strength though our fellowship…

“That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.”

{1 John 1:3 KJV}

  1. Wow, that would be rough, getting evicted by Grandma…but I know from long experience that what you’ve said is true…we don’t always see the “good” in His gifts right away. We just have to remember that He’s The GOOD, GOOD FATHER–always, so His gifts are always good too. May you be abundantly BLESSED today! Stella (new blog, used to be Delyn) ❤
