For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting. {Galatians 6:8 KJV}

The world is so backwards…

The other day, I helped a student with an assignment. It was a complicated assignment and I spent more time with her than I would normally spend with just one person. She was very grateful for my help, and offered to pay me for the extra time I’d spent with her. I just smiled and told her that it wasn’t necessary, I was happy to help her and it was part of my job. Before she left the library, she asked me if I could help her complete her assignment (adding narration to a presentation). I agreed to meet her at the library, on the weekend, and show her how to complete her project.

We met again, the following Sunday, and spent several hours working on her project. Again, she was grateful and offered to pay me. Again, I declined and told her that it was my pleasure to help her. Long story short, we got to talking about how people are so unwilling to just help others, anymore. We discussed how people in today’s world are looking out for themselves, wanting to know what they are going to get from helping someone else.

She said that her greatest gift was that when she helped someone, without asking forcorrupt anything in return, she had a sense of well-being. We agreed that the people who only want something in return have a bitter spirit about them. And that they are unhappy because they don’t get to experience the joy that comes from doing for others without expectation of compensation.

That’s what I see this verse saying. When a person only does something to get something in return, it begins to eat away at their spirit, like rust eating away at a piece of metal. There is no joy in only looking out for ourselves. But when we do things because the SPIRIT is leading us, because it is what GOD wants and tells us that we should do, then we can have life, real life that can be enjoyed.

My fellowship friend once made the comment,

“We need to be more concerned with what we do to others than what is done to us.”

The world is so backwards…Today’s verse explains why this mentality doesn’t work.

Let’s be forward people and be the example of how to live a life full of joy…a life everlasting!

Take a look at  Me first! I don’t think so… for more thoughts along this same line.

Gaining strength though our fellowship.

“That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.” {1 John 1:3 KJV}

  1. I LOVE giving, I do. I don’t give with hope of anything more returned than gratitude–that makes my heart happy–and I’ve matured to the point that I realize I won’t always get “gratitude”, and it won’t kill me. I also believe in “pay it forward”, so when I’m habitually giving to someone (I’m thinking particularly of an unsaved neighbor), there is the thought in back of my mind that–someday when I need something (a small favor, nothing huge), I hope this person will remember all I’ve done and “be there” for me. Unfortunately, there are takers/users in the world (and in the Body of Christ too)–and I’ve learned the painful lesson that giving to these people for years, literally, simply enables their sense of entitlement and makes them dependent on me. That does not make my heart happy. So I listen carefully to God’s voice, more and more–He knows I love to give, and sometimes he tells me “no more”. And there are people who will never be able to give anything back, and that’s fine–it’s all about wisdom and balance for me. May God bless you bountifully!

    1. I wish everyone would shout…”I LOVE GIVING” It would be a much nicer world. 🙂
      GOD has given us so much, and we tend to forget that it’s all HIS anyway, and HE tells us to give…and blesses us when we are obedient to HIM.
      It makes my heart glad to read that you are listening to HIM. Enjoy HIS blessings ❤

      1. It would be a nicer world, wouldn’t it–but I know that when people have hungry hearts, as I did before, they just can’t give, as they have nothing–no resources within. But as you’ve said, when GOD fills us up with so MUCH, we can’t help but enjoy sharing His overflow 🙂 It’s FUN to Give!!! God bless you richly today 🙂
